Local towns

Churchstoke (4 miles): Large supermarket with a “country park” at “Harry Tuffins”, nearest petrol and diesel filling station etc. There is also a small nature reserve in Old Churchstoke too.

Montgomery (5 miles): Small market town, town-trail, castle and a small number of shops.

Bishops Castle (8 miles): Small market town. Community swimming pool hire (01588) 638871.

Newtown (11 miles): Larger town, Maldwyn leisure centre including an outdoor 'all weather' 5 a side pitch, a swimming pool, squash courts, ten pin bowling etc.

Welshpool (14 miles): The Flash leisure centre, Canal cruises, Powis Castle (NT), Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway runs from here.

Church Stretton (20 miles): Classy English town in area of outstanding natural beauty, drive over the Long Mynd (unsuitable for coach) and see the gliders and hang gliders in action.

Shrewsbury (26 miles): Ten-pin bowling (01743) 461353, Good shops, Cineworld multi-screen cinema.

Llanrhayadr Ym Mochnant: Wales' highest waterfall. (Roads unsuitable for coach).

Chester: Large historic city with IMAX cinema, Roman ruins, Cathedral, beautiful shops. (approx. 1¼hr)


Coastal attractions

Borth: Beach beside small town. Shops, toilets etc. within easy reach. (approx. 1¼hr)

Ynyslas: Beach with dunes and wildlife study centre - very sandy. (approx. 1¼hr)

Tywyn: Sandy beach beside all attractions, small fun-fair, gift shops etc. (approx. 1½hr).

Aberystwyth: Largest town in Mid. Wales - pebble beach, Camera Obscura, Cliff Railway, shops, swimming pool if wet. (approx. 1¼hr)
